Artist Statement
Pamela Susan Held began painting at a young age, inspired by the creative spirit of her mother, also an artist. Over the course of more than thirty years as an art educator, Pamela championed the integration of visual arts across all areas of learning, fostering creativity in the classroom and beyond.
Her work draws influence from the bold brushwork of Van Gogh, the structured beauty of Cézanne, the luminous color fields of Wolf Kahn, and the mentorship of contemporary artist Kathleen Keifer. Rooted in the traditions of Impressionism, Pamela’s paintings reflect the ever-changing light, color, and rhythm of the natural world—particularly the seasons, mountains, oceans, and skies of California’s Central Coast.
Pamela’s work has been featured in local exhibitions, including a recent showcase in Arroyo Grande, a coastal town known for its appreciation of the arts and natural beauty.
From her sunlit garden studio in San Luis Obispo, Pamela paints with a deep sense of joy and reverence for nature. Each canvas is a celebration of harmony, light, and the quiet poetry found in the landscape.
